A bad connection will result to lag and may result in random disconnections. An unstable connection can be identified by simply checking your ping in-game.
In addition, an unstable connection may cause matchmaking errors. We advise players to try other modes and ensure that no other application is running when playing Free Fire and refrain from using any MOD or third-party programs.
If your ping is 150 and below but lags, it's not a connection issue, and can refer to our guide on Game Lag.
The average ping of players is around 250 and the lower the better. For Free Fire, 150ms and below is the ideal ping.
Here are the possible reasons why ping increases:
- Unstable internet connection.
- A lot of devices are connected to the same Wi-Fi network. Other devices connected to the Wi-Fi network demand more resources (like when you watch a film on streaming, or when you download a heavy file).
- Opened apps in the background.
- Active downloads in the background.
As mentioned above, an unstable internet connection is the most prevalent cause of lag. To remedy this, simply try switching to another connection: If you are connected to wifi, try using your device data and vice-versa. If you can only connect using wifi, ensure that your wifi connection is 3 bars or green.
Opened apps may also use data thus it is a must to close all apps before playing Free Fire or a quick restart of your device will do.
Downloads usually hide in the background and ensure that you have no active download.
Do a speed test and if the result shows a high ping, contact your service provider. Below is a screenshot of the speed test result using Ookla.
If you still experience lag after trying the steps listed above, feel free to contact our customer support officers and can refer to our guide on How to report connection issues.
